Launched in March 2006, The Field Negro quickly became a leading voice in political commentary, blending sharp analysis with unapologetic perspective. Bennett writes under the avatar “The Field Negro,” alongside thoughtful engagement from a loyal and active readership .
Since its inception, The Field Negro has generated nearly seven million page views and averages approximately 17,000 page views per week. The blog has been ranked among the top political blogs by Technorati, which tracks over 12 million blogs worldwide, and it consistently ranks in the top ten African American blogs for authority and readership.
Bennett’s work and influence extend beyond blogging. The Field Negro has received numerous honors, including the Black Weblog Award for Best Political Blog, and has been featured in major national publications such as The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and The Washington Post, as well as magazines including Essence and GQ

In addition to his work as a writer and commentator, Bennett is an attorney who practices criminal law and serves as a family law magistrate in Philadelphia. He is also a co-founder of the Afrosphere, a collective of African American political blogs that played a significant role in mobilizing national attention around the Jena 6 and Genarlow Wilson cases
